  • How can I register to access Baadal interface?

    Click on Login link at top right corner; fill the details and submit the form.
    You can login to Baadal interface using your IITD credentials.

  • Which operating systems are supported by Baadal?

    Currently, Baadal has template for Ubuntu16.04, Ubuntu18.04, Ubuntu20.04, Centos7, Windows 2019 Server & Windows 10 Desktop.
    If you need any other operating system or version, you can separately request for the same.

  • How can I request for a Virtual Machine?

    After login, goto USER MENU > Request VM.
    Fill the form according to your requirement. If you are a student, you need to mention kerberos ID of the supervisor/faculty in the form.
    Your virtual machine will be created once request is approved by supervisor & admin.
    Admin will approve the VM, if there are sufficient underlying resources. Allocation is not always guaranteed.

  • After Virtual machine is created, how can I access my VM?

    After VM is created, you will receive a mail with all the details. Baadal interface has VNC option can be access the VM desktop directly.
    By default VMs are created with a private IP; hence can be accessed from within IITD network only. User can seperately request for VPN access for connecting to the IITD LAN from outside IITD.
    To access Linux VM using assigned private IP; SSH to baadal machine using default credentials. Once successfully logged in; user is enforced to change the password.
    Windows VMs can be accessed using RDP.

  • What types of applications can I run on my virtual machine?

    Any application that will run on a standard PC will run inside a virtual machine on Baadal. Each virtual machine has its own CPU, memory, disks, I/O devices, etc. This allows you to run any application that runs on the supported guest operating systems.

  • Can I take snapshot of my virtual machine?

    You can snapshot a VM to save its state and revert to it at a future time.
    Moreover, for better reliability, you can configure system to automatically snapshots your VM on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis

  • What is VNC and how can I request for a VNC access?

    VNC is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the Remote Frame Buffer protocol (RFB) to remotely control another computer. User can request for VNC for troubleshooting. By default VNC access is provided for 30 minutes only.

  • How can i check performance/utilization of my virtual machine?

    Memory, CPU, Network and disk Utilization of VMs are periodically recorded.
    User can check the resource utilization graph of its virtual machine by going to USER MENU > My VMs > Settings > Check VM Performance

  • Can I change configuration of my virtual machine after it is created?

    Request can be submitted to upgrade RAM and CPU of VM. As virtual machine needs to be restarted for the change to take effect; editing configuration is allowed only if VM is Shut-off.

  • How much storage will be allocated with the virtual machine?

    Currently, templates are available with 30GB and 80GB storage. Harddisk will be allocated as per your request.

  • Can I request for additional harddisk?

    You can request for additional disk when requesting for VM. This disk will be mounted seperately on the VM
    You can also request for additional disk space at any point of time if VM is Shut-off.
    Goto USER MENU > My VMs > Settings > Attach Disk.
    To mount additional disk space, refer to the instructions here.

  • Is my virtual machine secure?

    Baadal is a multi-tenant implementation, which means that different organizations are protected from each other from network and system-level security attacks.
    User chooses a security domain at time of creation of VM. This is to isolate VM from other untrusted users. Only users within the same security domain need to trust each other.
    User should also secure its virtual machine as it would with any other PC.

  • Can I access internet on my VM?

    Intenet is accessible on Baadal VM using proxy. You can refer to following link for instructions to setup proxy.
